THE
HARVEY LEMBECK
COMEDY WORKSHOP

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) How long is each session?

We do not have sessions. All of the Workshop's classes are ongoing. We feel that perfecting ones timing isn’t something that can be done with a quick fix attitude. Most of the actors in the Workshop are with us anywhere from 2 to 15+ years. Harvey created a safe environment for actors to learn, grow and take risks.

2) How do I know if the Workshop is for me?

You can come audit a class. In fact, we prefer that you do audit a class to ensure that we are what you are looking for prior to your making a commitment to the Workshop.

3) How often will I put a scene up on stage?

Since we use situational improv and not scripted scene study, all of our actors are on stage three or four times each and every class. Harvey believed the only way to flex those comedy muscles was to work them out as often as possible.

4) I’m a working actor. Why do I have to start in the beginning class?

All actors new to the Workshop start out in the Beginning class regardless of their experience or credits. Our Beginning classes are not for beginning actors, rather for those actors beginning with us.

5) When do I move to the next level?

When you are stretched to your full potential in one level and there is an available seat in the next level, you will be moved. We will be checking your progress monthly and will make that determination. There is no set time frame (i.e., 16 weeks at the beginning level before being moved to an intermediate level) as each individual progresses at different rates.

6) I’m a writer, are these classes for me?

The Workshop is aimed at the trained working actor not writer. If you are a writer, you’d be better served in a script writing class than an acting class. However, some of our former students have gone on to successfully create, produce and write for television and feature films after leaving acting.
